As a Muslim homeschooling mom, creating a unified and meaningful homeschool environment for multiple children, can feel overwhelming. Therefore including a morning a basket, which are our family subjects, helped me teach and manage multiple kids. My third year of homeschooling has taught me that strategic planning and intentional learning can transform home education into an enriching experience for the entire family. Therefore, in our Muslim homeschool, doing family subjects allows us to learn together as a family and cover more subjects that are important to us.

Understanding Family Subjects in Muslim Homeschooling
Family subjects represent content-based learning that doesn’t require previous knowledge. Unlike skill-based subjects tailored to specific grade levels, content subjects bring children together, creating a collaborative learning environment. So children of any ages can come together and learn the family subjects together.

The Power of Collective Learning
By implementing family subjects in your morning basket, parents can:
• Maximize educational efficiency
• Encourage sibling learning interactions
• Simplify curriculum planning
• Create meaningful shared experiences
Our Family Curriculum Breakdown in our Morning Basket
Our approach involves six-week terms, focusing on 1-2 subjects per term. This strategy prevents me from being scattered and not focused, which prevents me from finishing the family subjects.
Read Alouds: The Anchor of Morning Time
Read aloud during breakfast has become our secret weapon. This strategy keeps our toddler engaged while introducing rich literary experiences to all children simultaneously. Reading aloud to your kids is very important as it improves concentration and focus, improves listening skills, kids learn new vocabulary and new ideas and so much more. You should be doing reading aloud to your kids daily and I always do in during my morning basket time, with my other family subjects.
